Director of the Rehabilitation Clinical Trials Center
- Greetings to our new website from the President of PERF
Dear Friends of Pulmonary Rehabilitation,
Welcome to the revitalized Website of the Pulmonary Education and Research Foundation (PERF). Founded way back in 1984, this organization has had a long history of dedication to the advancement of pulmonary rehabilitation science and practice. Some of the people who conceptualized the need for PERF are still working with us. In particular, we honor Mary Burns, Alvin Grancell and Dr. Brian Tiep for their steady and generous contributions over the years.
We decided to update the Website. Dr. Janos Porszasz, who has served as our Webmaster for many years, directed the update. You'll see that the look and functionality have improved. This website contains a lot of archival information as well as covering current topics in pulmonary rehabilitation. Please explore Tom Petty's "Letters from Tom", a repository of wisdom if there ever was one! Mary Burns published a monthly newsletter "The Second Wind" for many years; we've archived a large number of issues. In my opinion, this newsletter is the best of its kind that has ever been produced, though Chris Garvey's "Lungevity" newsletter that we now publish monthly comes close.
We hope that this Website will be of interest both to patients with lung disease and to rehabilitation professionals. We'll try to keep you up to date on research developments in rehabilitative sciences, especially (but not only) developments from our laboratory, the Rehabilitation Clinical Trials Center at the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute. We're hoping to upload narrated lectures on topics in rehabilitation from among our leadership group.
Please feel free to contact us with comments and suggestions.
Best wishes to all.
